Tradd had a great time tying flies at the Sowbug Roundup in Mountain Home, AR this weekend. One of the highlights of the trip was the result of the kindness of Michael Schraeder who Tradd met while tying flies on Thursday. Michael is an 8th grader, and is the current Southern Council Federation of Fly Fishers Junior Fly Tying Champion. He is a talented fly fisherman and an exceptional outdoor writer for the local newspaper, the Baxter Bulletin. On Friday, Michael sacrificed his personal free time and was an expert guide to Tradd on a local stream. Tradd caught a lot of trout, and the two fish pictured below were the highlights of the day. Thank you to Michael for the generosity of your time and for sharing your knowledge. It was a great day that Tradd will always remember.
Bead Head Caddis Pupa (McPhail Variant). #12 hook. A variation of one of my favorite flies to tie but this one has a Flymen Fishing Company Nymph-Head™ tungsten bead instead of the burned mono eyes that I usually use. I've been experimenting with many variations of this fly the last few weeks and the fish are eating them all.
